Kedar Gouri Temple | Kedareswar Temple
Kedar Gouri Temple, one of the eight Astasambhu Temples in Bhubaneswar, Orissa
This temple is one of the eight Astasambhu Temples, situated next to Mukteswar Temple, in Bhubaneswar, Orissa. Lord Shiva, locally referred as ‘Kedareshwar’ is the presiding deity of this temple.
Legend says king of Utkal, Lalatendu Kesari, had raised this temple after a tragic incident relating to two lovers death, Kedar and Gouri. This place is visited often for happy wedlock pray. Near the temple the ponds (‘Khirakunda’ and another Marichi Kunda’) said to have some medicinal property. The whitish, hygienic and digestive quality of this water is carried out for drinking purpose.
Every year during Shital Sasthi festival, Lord Lingaraj (Shiva) is taken from Lingaraj temple in a grand procession to Kedar Gouri temple, where he marries Devi Parvati.
