Located at a distance of nearly 65 km from Bhubaneswar, Konark city is famous all over the world for its magnificent Sun Temple, which is dedicated to Surya, the Sun God. Konark is a small town in Puri district of the state of Orissa. Sun Temple (also known as the Black Pagoda) was built in 13th-century, with black granite by King Narasimhadeva-I (AD 1236-1264) of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty.
The temple is now partly in ruins, and a collection of its sculptures is housed in the Sun Temple Museum, which is run by the Archaeological Survey of India.
During festivals, the city becomes alive with fun-filled activities. Konark is also home to an annual dance festival, held every December, devoted to classical Indian dance forms, including the traditional classical dance of Orissa. The Dance Festival of Konark is very popular and people come here from different parts of the country to attend it.

Konark city is a lively place, surrounded by flourishing green forests. Shopping in Konark is always fun. There are numerous items that you can buy here, like the embellished sculptures depicting various Hindu Gods and Goddesses and handcrafted items. You can travel to the city anytime during the year. However, the best time to visit Konark is between October and March.
