These temples display the history of Kalinga architecture and its sole architectural legacy, coupled with purity and holiness. Numerous temples with complex architectural work exhibit the Orissan architecture displayed by legendary artist.

On one side, the city houses about 30 famous ancient temples, and on the other side a very well-planned township exists. The most attractive tourist points of Bhubaneswar are the rock-cut caves of Khandagiri and Udayagiri, Lingaraj Temple, the Nandankanan Zoological and Botanical Park, the ancient excavation site of Sisupalgarh, Indira Gandhi memorial Park etc.

The city’s history is symbolized in the nearby Dhauligiri rock proclamation of emperor Ashoka at the site of the well-known Kalinga war. It was the provincial capital of many Hindu dynasties between fifth and tenth centuries AD.
